Zamboanga Today Apologizes for Plagiarized Article
Dear Mr. Faustino,
Thank you for your response to explain what happened. I appreciate it and I accept your apology.
I am glad that you acted quickly to resolve the problem with Zimnet. However, they don’t have to stop posting your opinion page articles on the online edition provided that they include the authors’ names. Readership of Internet editions of newspapers is growing very fast especially with the overseas Filipino community which is now about 10 million. That’s how I came across Ms. Lacbao’s online posting of my article.
I want to thank you for publishing my column in your newspaper, Zambaonga Today. You have my permission to continue publishing them in your newspaper as well as your Internet online edition.
Likewise, I would also like to get your permission to post articles from your online edition that I find interesting to share with my Global Balita readers.
All the best,
Perry Diaz

Mr. Perry Diaz
Global BalitaDear Sir:
Good day. Allow me to extend to you my sincerest apology for what Ms. Riza Lacbao did. She is not my opinion writer. She is not even an employee of our newspaper. Ms. Lacbao is an encoder in the Zimnet company who uploads our news articles to the internet. Zimnet is the company we hired to maintain our website.
In our newspaper, your name was duly credited as the author of the article “Quo Vadis Chiz?”. I sent you an image of the article as printed in our paper. Our readers, including myself, like your opinions and write-ups on issues about our country, and since the internet is not yet widely used here in our city, I regularly publish your article in my opinion page, of course giving due credit to you as the author.
When I received your email, it was only then I discovered that the encoder of Zimnet is excluding the names of all the authors of the articles we print in the opinion page and include her name.
As you requested, I already called the manager of Zimnet and instructed him to immediately stop the online publication of all articles under the opinion page of Zamboanga Today online. I will also meet with him on November 11 to show him your email and demand for immediate disciplinary action against Ms. Lacbao.
I personally beg for your understanding and I assure you that this will never happen again. I hope you will still allow us to print your write-ups and opinions in our paper as they are truly reflective of the situation here in our country.
Again, we are very sorry sir.
Yours truly,
Jv Faustino
