Fil-I-Am Benefit Showcase for Typhoon Relief

In response to Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, the Center for Asian Pacific American Students, the Filipino Club and the Asian Pacific American Coalition invites the community to its “Fil-I-Am” benefit showcase on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7:30pm at Pitzer College.

The event is open to the community with a suggested donation of $5.00. This is an outdoor, alcohol free event. Parking is free.

Live performances by:
- Quest Crew, Winners of MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” Season 3
- Paul Dateh, Asian American singer, award-winning songwriter, and instrumentalist
- Filipino Warrior Arts Exhibition by Legacy Marital Arts Studio
- UCLA Samahang Modern Dance
- Claremont College 5C Dance Team

Meet and greet with the artists! All proceeds will go to Typhoon Relief through the Philippine Red Cross.

The Philippines, still recovering from Typhoon Ondoy and Super Typhoon Pepeng, which brought the most devastating floods in the last 40 years, stormed through areas of the country. In one week, the typhoons nearly 1,000 deaths, displaced hundreds of thousands of people, and resulted in over $300 million in damages. Ondoy’s total rainfall was 410mm, while Hurricane Katrina’s was 380mm in New Orleans. The archipelago faces the arrival of Typhoon Lupit this week.
