Paalam at Salamat Cory and Ninoy Aquino

090109-paalam-salamat

August 22, 2009, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts

The Filipino community in New England celebrated the lives of both Cory and Ninoy Aquino in a solemn service at the St. Ignatius Loyola Church, a few meters away from their home-in-exile. The Aquino family lived in 175 Commonwealth Avenue during their stay in Boston when he took a fellowship from Harvard and MIT from 1980-1983. The mass was co-celebrated by Father Arnel Aquino, S.J. and Father Archie Carampatan S.J., both Theology scholars at Boston College.

The Choir rendered beautiful eucharistic hymns in Tagalog and English all throughout the service, including the recessional song, “Bayan Ko”. To conclude the rites, Dr. Almario Bucal, representing the Benigno S. Aquino Foundation of Boston gave the eulogy and the Iskwelahang Pilipino Rondalla Ensemble ended the tribute with a nationalistic number called, “Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi at Musika”.

Many attendees dressed or accented their attire in yellow to symbolize the People Power Revolution Cory led. Cory Aquino, heroin of this movement died on August 1, 2009 of cancer. Ninoy Aquino was assassinated on August 21, 1983 upon his return from Boston, Massachusetts.

From all the Pilipinos in New England, we pay tribute to this couple, Paalam and Salamat!
