6-year-old Pinoy Junior Golfers in World Championships

After 5 gruelling rounds of golf played last April at the Manila Southwoods and Sherwood Hills golf clubs in Carmona, Cavite, three six-year-old boys emerged as the representatives of the youngest age group of Team Philippines to the prestigious Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California this July.
Forming the three person team are Liam Ramos, Joaquin Tronco, and Josh Jorge. Tronco, 6, who was also the youngest in last year’s delegation remains to be the youngest in the 36-strong Philippine team, headed by Class A (15-17 years old) players, Edward Reyes and Jobim Carlos.
The Callaway Junior World Golf Championships is the prestigious annual event where golfing great Tiger Woods began winning trophies as a child. This year, the event will be held from July 13-17, 2008 at different golf courses in San Diego for the different age groups.

Practice Round – Monday, July 13th
Players will play practice rounds at their respective golf courses
First Round – Tuesday, July 14th
15-17 Boys Division Torrey Pines South Course
15-17 Girls Division Torrey Pines NOrth Course
13-14 Boys Division Riverwalk Golf Club (Mission/Presidio)
13-14 Girls Division
Sycuan Resort (Oak Glen)
11-12 Division Country Club of Rancho Bernardo
9-10 Boys Division
9-10 Girls Division

Second Round – Wednesday, July 15th
Fields reduced in the 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 Divisions. No cut in 6-U division.
Final Round (6-U, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14) – Thursday, July 16th
Trophies will be awarded to the 6-U, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 Divisions immediately following play.
Field reduced in the 15-17 Division after completion of 54 holes.
Final Round (15-17) – Friday, July 17th
Trophies will be awarded immediately following play at the Closing Ceremony.
