Youngest Filipino Golfer In World Junior Golf Tourney From Bacolod City

Joaquin Leandro Figura Tronco, 5, is the youngest Filipino golfer to play in the upcoming 2008 Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California. Joaquin who hails from Bacolod City is the youngest representative of Team Philippines in the prestigious annual junior golf event in the USA. Tronco joins two other team mates in the 6 years old and under age group. Joaquin is the son of Atty. Regina Tronco and advertising executive Lloyd Tronco.

The Callaway Junior World Golf Championships is the prestigious annual event where golfing great Tiger Woods began winning trophies as a child. This year, the event will be held from July 15-18, 2008 at different golf courses in Southern California for the different age groups as follows:

First Round - Tuesday, July 15th
15-17 Boys Division @ Torrey Pines South Course
15-17 Girls Division @ Carlton Oaks Country Club
13-14 Boys Division @ Riverwalk Golf Club (Mission/Presidio)
13-14 Girls Division @ Sycuan Resort (Oak Glen)
11-12 Division @ Lake San Marcos Country Club
9-10 Boys Division @ Welk Golf Resort (Fountains)

9-10 Girls Division @ Lomas Santa Fe Executive
7-8 Division @ Sycuan Resort (Pine Glen)
6-U Division @ Colina Park Golf Course

Second Round - Wednesday, July 16th
Fields reduced in the 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 Divisions. No cut in 6-U division.

Final Round (6-U, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14) - Thursday, July 17th
Trophies will be awarded to the 6-U, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 Divisions immediately following play. Field reduced in the 15-17 Division after completion of 54 holes.

Final Round (15-17) - Friday, July 18th
Trophies will be awarded immediately following play at the Closing Ceremony.

PRE-GAME EVENTS

• Tournament Registration will be on Saturday, July 12th & Sunday, July 13th at Torrey Pines Golf Course, the official Tournament Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Junior World Putting Championships - Saturday, July 12th & Sunday, July 13th at the Practice Putting Green at Torrey Pines Golf Course from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as well.
• Opening Ceremony & Parade of Flags - Sunday, July 13th. The Junior World Golf Championships opening Ceremony will be held at 5:00pm on the 1st Tee of the South Course. A parade of state and national flags will highlight the event. All players are encouranged to attend this very special event.
• Welcoming Party- Sunday, July 13th - The Welcoming Party will immediately follow the Opening Ceremony at the Helicopter Pad, near the 9th Tee on the South Course. Food and entertainement will be provided. Space is limited to the first 1200 guests who RSVP by July 1st.
• Practice Round - Monday, July 14th. Players will play practice rounds at their respective golf courses
