Ellen DeGeneres on Journey & Arnel Pineda guesting on her show: “Unbelievable”
May 28, 2008: JOURNEY–Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and new lead singer Arnel Pineda’s hitting the road to promote REVELATION, the highly anticipated three-disc CD/DVD package set for release June 3 exclusively at Wal-Mart stores in North America.They guested at the Ellen DeGeneres Show which aired May 28, 2008.
Journey performed two of their four hit singles, the first one they played is “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” with Arnel on lead vocals. This song was the first single that the band did a music video at a wharf in New Orleans during Steve Perry’s time with the song hitting #8 on the charts. Arnel Pineda gave the song a new heart, depth & a lot of stage moves. Ellen exclaimed “Unbelievable! Unbelievable! …”
The second cut they did at Ellen’s show is the truly amazing ballad “Faithfully” which I grew up on (high school days!). During its original release, this song reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. This is the power ballad of Journey, and the second single from their album ‘Frontiers.’ Although this is not the band’s most successful song, it became the trademark and most recognizable song ever and has enjoyed continuous popularity.
Journey on Ellen with “Faithfully”
It describes the relationship of a “music man” who is always on the road touring and having difficulty with raising a wife and family. It reveals the deeper feeling of ‘rediscovering her again’ and promises “I’m forever yours, faithfully.” The lyrics were written by Journey Keyboard man Jonathan Cain himself. Arnel Pineda squeezed out some more of this love-lost-rebirth song and threw Ellen’s studio audience in a standing ovation. Neal Schon’s ecstatic lead guitar gave the anthem song a familiar but new and slightly different feel all the way to the extended reverb.
Journey closed Ellen’s show with their new song “After All These Years” which fans are anticipating will be a huge hit!
Journey’s REVELATION CD/DVD is coming out at WalMart stores on June 3rd, 2008 with two CDs and one DVD of the Planet Hollywood Vegas concert last March 08. European tour starts in June and the U.S. tour will be in July. For concert schedule, go to www.journeymusic.com

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE LAST SONG “JOURNEY” (ARNEL PINEDA) PERFORMED ON ELLEN. I HEARD ONE BEAUTIFUL LINE AND THEN HE WAS CUT OFF IT WENT TO COMMERCIAL AND THEN IT WAS THE END OF THE SHOW. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS SONG – THIS VERSION OF THE SONG, BUT I DIDN’T HEAR ENOUGH OF IT TO RECOGNIZE WHICH SONG IT WAS. HELP……. THANKS.

i dont think this guy is no where near steve perry he seems to have difficulty singing the songs he slows the vocals down to much. you have to be deaf not to hear it. on a scale 1-10 about a 6 steve perry is a 10 and always will be
@ Janet: I agree on Steve Perry and his legendary vocal legacy. However, Neal Schon himself has expressed time and time again that Journey is not looking for a Steve Perry clone.
In reality, they turned down other auditions because they looked and sound too much like Steve Perry (GQ Magazine June 2008). They wanted somebody who can belt Journey songs but can also hold his own style and rhythm – exactly what they found in Pineda. Somebody real.
On another note – me being a Journey fan myself since the 80s from Steve Perry days, I have to realize that Perry IS NOT coming back to the band.
Arnel might be different, but he can hold his own. Come to think of it, I am not comparing PINEDA with PERRY. I just want to enjoy a new phase of Journey and the US Tour which I am privileged to watch & review.

I saw Journey at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas recently and I can tell you, [edited]! Arnel was unbelievable. There were similarities as far as him sounding like Steve Perry but he is not Steve Perry and will never be. So, for those Steve Perry fans who says racist remarks about Arnel, it must hurt like a mother that he is with Journey and not your [edited]. Steve Perry was awesome, but Arnel is awesome. MUSIC doesn’t discriminate. We all bleed the same blood (though mine is less evil), so get over it. It is what it is, and Arnel is with Journey and they’re rockin’ as ever.
I got the link of Arnel when Journey performed in Chile when a co-employee sent it around the office. I sent it home and my husband saw Arnel. From then on we followed all the updates and even watched Journey at San Diego. Ross said everything that needs to be said in their interview at the CBS news. We are forever fans of Jouurney especially now Arnel is with them. The group is just awesome. We hope to see them again in San Diego. It was my first watching such concert. The handsome group are more groovy…! My friends said at home, in their car, and at work, journey songs are being played….and even memorized the songs already…funny! I even took off that day they were featured at Ellen’s show, but did not see them singing the other songs…luckily we saw it in utube….My husband, Rey, says that “After All These Years” will make to the top hits!
Hope to hear Deen to sing more of the Journey songs in the future. Can’t wait for Jonathan’s new love song; and for Shaun’s never ending rocking with his guitar; and not to leave Ross’ funny faces..Love you all!

Arnel himself is not too proud of being chosen as the frontman, he even accepts the fact that scrutiny will come along the way. He doesn’t perform out there for you to see more like Perry, but what he does girl is love for music, a living for the family, and of course hopeful for people like you to be entertained. This is not about Perry, nor about Journey, just listen and understand the messages of it’s song, I’ll bet, you’ll kneel down hoping life could be magnificent without people like you who deserve less than a melancholic life. Oh, I’m not a fan of Journey, I don’t know about Arnel, but I love music. I’m sure hope you do.
