Just one continual comment keeps bugging me.

I’m American with about every bloodline in me but Asian. I’m NOT Filipino. But I came over here because I was looking up some names of Filipino actors in my search for a bit of trivia I still can’t seem to find.

But how can you say that none of these people matter to Americans, Filipino or otherwise? I don’t know much about Dante Basco’s parents (immigrants or not), but I do know that he was born and raised here in America and while he maintains ties to the Philippines, is very much American. A lot of the faces that you say are just “Manila” crew, even I know aren’t just people from Manila.

My two cents, and you might ignore them because I’m not Pinay, but let’s face it, for a first time event it got some people only mildly aware of Filipino culture to sit up and take notice and go, “I wonder what’s happening next year.” And next year, we’ll see even more and more representative visionaries (and probably celebrities) and it’ll be one of those moments I had this morning discovering one of my favorite actresses (Lexa Doig) was Filipino! I went “Wow” and got that much more excited as I began to realize how much your culture has contributed to ours.

You know, but we don’t. This was a nice step into teaching the rest of us about how exciting it is to be Pinoy.

Sad that many real visionaries are not remembered. Perhaps this organization has a different definition of “Visionary” – different than what the audience/readers envisioned (pun intended).

I have taken the time to read all of the comments on this thread, all I can offer as a comment is Hope. Hope for improvement in the motherland! Hope that the talents of our fellow filipinos will continue to flourish beyond the compounds of our community and into the world community! Hope that we will find tolerance for others’ opinions and ideas. Hope that positivity spreads. Hope that we continue to express ourselves in all walks of life. Hope that our filipino brothers and sisters will continue to entertain, educate, aid and inspire others as they have done so for many generations.
